The Joint Communication, Social Justice and Democracy IAMCR Working Group conference & ECREA 2026 pre-conference focuses on the constructive force of hope, addressing visions, discourses, and practices of hope for democracy, peace, and justice, as articulated in media representations and communicative practices. It will feature a presentation by Jose David Ortega Chavez on the projection of competing peace narratives in Colombian presidential discourse and a prestentation by Ali Minanto on the democratic contestation over urban space in Yogyakarta.
Dr Jose David Ortega Chávez is a Lecturer in Media and Communication at the School of Media and Film. He teaches across a range of subjects, including Politics and the Media, Digital Media Research Methods, and Advertising and Branding. His research focuses on political communication, particularly the role of news media in peace negotiations.
Ali Minanto is a PhD student at the Department of Media Studies, Charles University. His research focus is related to visual communication, democracy, cultural geography, social movement, and everyday life politics. He is also a CULCORC member and one of the authors of the film essay AGON: Constructions of Democracy.
