Conference panel “Participation, Knowledge and Communication: An Intersection of Transformative Forces”

IAMCR Conference 2026 in Galway, Ireland

At the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Conference 2026, held at the University of Galway (Ireland), the panel “Participation, Knowledge and Communication: An Intersection of Transformative Forces” brought together scholars to discuss the complex relationships between participation, knowledge production, democracy, and communication.

Convened by Nico Carpentier (CULCORC, Charles University) and with Aniruddha Jena, PhD (Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi) as discussant, the panel featured contributions exploring topics ranging from democratic participation and education to media research from the margins, refugee communication, public service media, social media activism, and theoretical reflections on participation and knowledge.

Among the presentations, Nico Carpentier and Vaia Doudaki (CULCORC, Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University) presented their paper “Participation, Knowledge and Stupidity: A Theoretical Reflection”, contributing to ongoing discussions within the MeDeMAP – Mapping Media for Future Democracies project and broader debates on democracy, participation, and communication.
